A Great Site
Let's be honest, there are web sites out there that just plain suck, and they get tons of traffic. How do they do it? Probably by spamming (illegal use of e-mail; sending thousands of people unwanted e-mail messages about their site), or by paying the big bucks. If you want you web site that gets traffic, without paying the big bucks, you'll have to build a great web site. This article is meant to help teach you what makes a great web site.
A great web site will eventually sell it's self. If your visitors find your site of use, they may pass it along to other people they know, which then tell people they know, and soon you have a domino effect of traffic.
A great web site is well designed. It doesn't have to be a great design, just so that it's easy to read, easy to navigate, and doesn't annoy your visitors. Bright colors, large images, too much animation and unusually large text can all annoy visitors. Also make sure your web site looks good and works fine in Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, and AOL. If so, it probably looks fine in any other browser.
A great web site loads fast, and uses images, but uses them selectively. Visitors will "run away" from your web site if it does not load in less than 30 seconds on a 28.8K connection. Use background images and tables instead of using a lot images.
A great web site has good content that people other than you care about. The web is a big place, but your not going to get thousands of visitors flooding to your site to see picture from your last camping trip. Make sure the stuff on your site is free if you want to get a lot of visitors.
A great web site has original content. That's right, original content is the best thing you can have on your site. A bunch of links just won't cut it. The more original ideas you have and use on your site the better. Chances are if you think your idea is good, thousands of other people will think so too, and if it's original, that means if visitors want more of that service or product, there is only one place on the net to find it, your site.
A great web site has a presence on the net. I'm sorry to say it, but if you are really serious about your web site, Geocities and Tripod just won't cut it. You'll have to get pay hosting, you can get pay hosting at a reasonable price of $8.95 a month for 45 megs at http://www.icom.com . You will also need a dot com, or dot net. It's easy to remember, and shows your visitors you are serious.
I hope this article helped your realize what visitors want, and why they come to your site. I hope it also helps you to build a great web site and business. Best of luck.
